Wooden Commercial Garden Furniture

Wood has a unique appeal and is by far the most popular material for garden furniture because it creates a unique sense of warmth and home-like atmosphere. Wooden garden furniture therefore is not only preferred by home owners but by commercial establishments as well because it enables restaurants, bars, spas and other businesses to create a welcoming atmosphere customers enjoy returning to.

Elegance and beauty play an important role in choice of every commercial garden furniture which makes wood an ideal material. However, commercial establishments also have to pay attention to several factors most home owners do not need to worry about. Like all types of garden furniture, commercial garden furniture has to withstand the outdoor elements including rain, UV radiation, mould, insects, wind, dirt, etc. as well as frequent and heavy use which is why the selection of the type of wood is highly important. All pieces of wooden garden furniture look beautiful when new but most of them cannot fight the outdoor conditions on their own. Water sealants and other wood care products help preserve the beauty of wooden garden furniture as well as extend its longevity. However, staining, waxing, sealing, etc. can be very expensive and/or time consuming, especially if owning a larger number of garden furniture.

Each type of wood has unique qualities and characteristics and for that reason it is very important to pay attention to the type of wood of which garden furniture is made. In general, woods can be divided into hardwoods and softwoods but commercial garden furniture is typically made of hardwoods because they are more durable and withstand the outdoor conditions a lot better than softwoods. Hardwoods are more expensive than softwoods but they can last up to three decades if cared for properly, while garden furniture made of softwoods such as pine last up to ten years in the best case which is why garden furniture made of hardwoods is typically more cost efficient in the long run as it does not have to be replaced as frequently.

Commercial garden furniture made of hardwoods is undoubtedly a better choice than garden furniture made of softwoods but there is a major difference between different types of hardwoods as well. Some hardwoods such as teak are naturally resistant to the weather elements, water, mould and termites, while the others such as oak require at least basic protection against the outdoor elements in order to extend their durability and keep them beautiful.
